Screen goes black upon booting to anything

I have a 15" Macbook Pro. The model is an early 2010.

Whenever I boot up my system it doesn't have any issues but as soon as it loads something the screen goes black.

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the display as a flashlight shone through the Apple logo on the back of the display does nothing to improve it and the flashlight can't even be seen on the screen. The screen is still on it's just entirely black.

I tried resetting the PRAM and SMC but those didn't work.

Whenever I plug it into an external monitor the screen on my computer briefly comes to life before turning black again and nothing ever appears on the external monitor.

Every now and then, the screen will flash green before turning black again. The same problem occurs when booting to recovery mode, hardware test, and start up manager.

If anyone knows a solution or the source of the problem that'd be greatly appreciated!

Sadly, from the sounds of it I suspect your GPU is failing. You'll need a new logic board. Here is the IFIXIT guide you'll need to follow: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Mid 2010 Logic Board Replacement.
