Broken ethernet port (something snapped and now wiggles)

Hi All:

I've broken the ethernet port and now I cannot get online at home.

Is the RJ-11 the proper connection and if so, how hard is it to replace the plug?

Thanks in advance.

Glenn

Please give us the last three letters of your serial number so we know EXACTLY which machine you have. Thanks

The ethernet port is soldered onto the logic board. You would need to have a component level repair done to fix it or install an airport card.

The Airport card addition may be the easiest way to go. If you do the teardown and take it into an old tech the charge should only be about $15-$20.

Hi Mayer:

The last three letters are "RCU". Hmmm...not sure if I want to mess with a logic board and a soldering iron.

Thanks for responding.

Thanks Mayer...I think that I'll just pick up a wireless router for now. The laptop does have an airport card, so I'll forgo the teardown. Maybe at a later date I'll do it.

You can use a USB wireless dongle instead of an internal airport card.
