Certain keys come out in pairs when clicked.

Hello everyone,

I have a mid 2012 MacBook Pro. And recently my keys have been typing in pairs.

34 comes out when typing 4

df comes out when typing f

cv comes out when typing v

er comes out when typing r

I had wiped my Mac down with isopropyl alcohol and am afraid I may have short circuited my keyboard. These problems stop only when typing in CAPS LOCK. What should I do? What is main problem ? How costly would it be? What is the solution?

Please give us your exact model. size and year. Also how long ago did you wipe it down? Did you put the alcohol on the rag first or on the keyboard first?

Hello, Mayer, I have a mid 2012 MacBook pro with a 13 inch screen, I put alcohol on the paper towel first. I had wiped it down about 6 days ago, the problem is still occurring.

This is indicative of a shorted out keyboard. Did you also spill something on it besides just cleaning it?

UPDATE 8/5/17

Normal alcohol is 30% water. If it's still doing it after a week, you've shorted it out and will need to replace it. Please give us your exact model and I'll see if I can get you to the part and guide to fix it. Overindulgence with alcohol is never a good idea. Hopefully this experience will remind you of that fact every time you attempt to do so in the future. Experience is a brutal teacher.

UPDATE 2

An Apple store will tell you that you have to replace the whole uppercase. They will probably be asking $450-$600. They do not do that type of component repair. However the price on that part has dropped dramatically. Replacing the keyboard is a very difficult repair and takes me 2.25 hours. It would take a noob probably four hours and then hope you got it all back together. The uppercase repair is just difficult.
