Earpeice not working no matter what I try

Hello all,

I am unable to hear anything from the earpiece when making or receiving calls.

I have another fully functional iPhone 5 so I have swapped the entire LCD/digitizer assembly over so I know the earpiece/front camera flex is working & not damaged or faulty.

Even after installing the fully functional assembly the ear piece still fails to work.

I have even restored the phone to factory settings & still the earpiece fails to work.

I can hear phone calls through the loudspeaker & when headphones are plugged in but not through the earpiece.

Does that mean that because I have eliminated all external parts the only remaining component that could be at fault is the logic board?

Any help is appreciated as I am flat out of things to try.

Thanks Adam

There could be one other explanation for the issue. Tell me this, when you adjust the volume up and down, does the phone show its adjusting the volume for the ringer or for the headphones?

by

The volume adjustment says ringer.

Does Siri work? Or does front facing camera, when recording video, pick up any sound?

by

Yes Siri works perfect & when recording video with the front facing camera sound is recorded as well.

Your troubleshooting certainly seems to point to a logic board issue. One thing you don't mention is how did this problem occur. Was it following a repair (battery replacement), drop, coming into contact with rain or water? Or did it suddenly stop working for no apparent reason?

I would closely inspect the connector for the Front Camera & Sensor on the logic board and look for broken or bent pins or missing components around the connector. Use this guide. Beyond that, you would have to have someone who can diagnose board-level issues look at your phone. Many micro-soldering repair shops work on a no fix no fee basis so you could at least get an estimate and then determine if fixing a IP5 is worth it to you or not.

I have had a real good look at the connector and it appear to be perfect. I have also made sure there is no foreign matter in the center channel of the connector but to no avail the ear peice still fails to operate.

The earpiece just stopped working out of no where no rhyme or reason.
