optical drive ejecting disk

My Imac keep ejecting every disk I put in, It sound like it's trying to read but kicks it back out. It also sounds like the "eye" might have ran all the way out to one end and can't get back. Is there anything I can do to get it to start reading again?

From APPLE - Desktop & Portable systems 2nd Ed

Disconnect all peripheral devices, especially the mouse

Clean disk, change disk

perform clean install (Don't ask me how - from external optical)

reseat the drive

replace the drive

replace main logic board
