install OS X on SDD mounted instead of the Superdrive

Hi everybody. I have a simple question to suppress any of my doubts.

If i replace the superdrive of my Imac 21.5'' with a SSD, will I be able to install the OS on it and at the same time keep the HD as secondary internal memory?

Chosen Solution

The BUS speed on the optical drive is slower than the main BUS so I would switch the drives.

You did not tell us which iMac you have, so I cannot give you full details.

UPDATE

\Now that I know your machine, my answer is different. Use this guide:

Installing iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2428 Dual Drive Kit

is 21.5'' mid 2011 Imac.

from many tutorials i have seen that SSD and the HD have different size. so, there is no way to keep the old HD internal?

Then that new Bus will have the same speed of the HD?

so is the dual hard drive is the only proper solution to have OS intsalled on SSD while keeping the HD inside?

thanks for the answer

@mayer - The SATA port speeds are the same across the different SATA connections within the system. It's only the older systems which have a PATA optical drive that the connection is so slow! The port polling for boot can make it appear slower if the setting was not altered which is a common issue when people add a second drive which will be the boot drive.
