does not boot after water damage

I wasted some water on my Macbook air and was able to open it up and clean things up, but now it boots to a strange screen. (See attached pictures)

Current situation :

I tried all boot options , but nothing works

When i turn on, the fan kicks on, screen light up and shortly after i hear the chime, then the progress bar shows up. Soon after the screen darkens a bit reboots itself then flashes between the two screens shown below

No mouse pointer displayed during this process.

Any help is appreciated

Hi Austin, sorry to hear about your spill!

It sounds like the water may have damaged some internal components. The screen your Mac is booting to appears when the computer cannot successfully connect to the trackpad or internal keyboard. Aside from taking off your lower case and physically examining both the trackpad & keyboard liquid sensors, I'd recommend using an external mouse/keyboard to see if you can get past the boot screen.

If you see tripped sensors on the trackpad, logic board or any other internal parts, you'll likely want to replace them. If the external components (trackpad/keyboard) don't work and you don't find any tripped sensors, I'd take it into a repair shop to have some diagnostics run on it.

Good luck!

Sounds possible for the keyboard replacement, but also look for any corrosion or burns (depending how long it was before it was opened) and use a soft toothbrush with 91% alcohol to clean it off so it doesn't get worse. Just to be on the safe side and also if you're comfortable taking it apart. Good luck.

Maria,

Thank you for the insight. I'm no Mac expert but the sensors i see are all white in color, however they are two sensor looking circles on the memory card that are red-ish.

I will try external devices to see if anything changes and will report back.

Thank you

Update.

Attached Bluetooth mouse dongle and computer boots up slowly but eventually arrives to the sign in screen. I'm able to use the mouse to navigate the menu but the built-in keyboard is not working.

Is it time to replace them both?

Thank you
