LED 1 flickers with a clicking sound

My iMac G5 won't power up at all. I removed the back cover and plugged in the power cord. LED 1 flickers and there is a clicking sound that matches the flicker. Trying to power up by the internal power switch does nothing. Pushing the reset does nothing either. Any idea where the problem lies?

My serial number is in the first range, W8452xxxxxx.

So, I will check the capacitors before looking for a power supply.

Thanks.

Chosen Solution

This indicates a bad power supply. Before replacing it, examine the capacitors (cans) on the logic board for corrosion and/or swelling. See if your machine is in this list:

Serial Number ranges:

W8435xxxxxx – W8522xxxxxx

QP435xxxxxx – QP522xxxxxx

CK435xxxxxx – CK522xxxxxx

YD435xxxxxx – YD522xxxxxx
