Only charging when switched off

My iphone is only charging when it's switched of... I think it's a hardware problem because i deleted everything on the Iphone and recovered. Sometimes its charging while its on, but most of the time its only charging whend it's switched of... So i can't sync with itunes.

Can you help me? Which part of the Iphone could be broken?

it my just be that your charging port is a bit dirty ... turn off the phone and try to pick out any lint or dirt, try not to use any thing metal.

Thanks for your reply

I tried, but still have the problem.

When the charging port is dirty, why would then the phone charge when its turned off and not charge when its on?

this can happen as certain pins are not making contact ... remember this is a 30 pin connector so it is quite possible, i like to use a toothbrush to try and get any gunk out

alternatively ... you might want to change the charging port itself

Chosen Solution

Best and most likely solution is to replace the charging dock. Sometimes cleaning the charger port in result has actually made it worse because the pins in the charging dock have already been damaged or worn out. Any alignment issues can make the connection to the charging cable worse easily.

You can get the part from here:

You can replace the part yourself if you want using this guide:
