iPod not working after being connected by magnet on dashboard in car

we connected the ipod to a magnet in the car which we use for a phone normally to hold it in place, since then the ipod is not responding to anything. even tried to re start it and will not connect to the computer. sometimes it tries to work but then freezes. any ideas what we can do if anything.

Usually magnets that are used to hold devices aren't strong enough to destroy your hard drive:

But it does sound like your drive has failed.

Here's how to replace it, but be sure to identify it exactly if it is a 160GB drive as there are both thick and thin drives:
