Fans Running High
Since I bought my MacBook Pro-2.4GHz, I've had a problem with the fans roaring, especially when I'm working long, detailed Word documents and have my FireFox Browser open (more tabs open the faster they run).
But this doesn't happen all the time. I'm trying to determine what is the real cause of the fans starting to rise from 2500 rpm to 5000 rpm.
Thanks for all the feedback. FYI - I have used iStat Pro widgit and Activity Monitor since the 1st month that I got my MacBook Pro - because the fan noise was so markedly high compared to my old PowerBook and an Apple Genius told me about them. Unfortunately, they let me observe the Fan activity, but not cure it without closing various programs.
Also note that I'm almost 95% a hard-surface user of my MacBook Pro, but I appreciate the heads-up on the soft-surface advice.
I found a couple of things that seem to help with Fan Noise:
1. Add-ons/Plug-ins to control Flash on both Firefox and Safari - which helps some.
2. Another tool that I just found (and so far is keeping the Fan Noise much calmer) is "Extended MacBook/MacBook Pro Fan Control 1.2." It can be downloaded from Version Tracker. You can Google it to find out more about how it works.
Again, thanks for all your feedback.
Is this a good question?
