black screen - wont restore

Hi

this is my first post on here, but been using ifixit for a while now.

i have an iPhone 5c.

Its screen is almost constantly black and won't come on. I've tried hard reset and it seems to switch on and off whilst doing this. (you can here the ping as its recognized with USB attached). The phone does not vibrate or light up when this happens.

When i connect to iTunes, it says it detects a phone in recovery mode. So i click to update. Itunes starts doing its thing, extarcting, preparing iphone etc, the screen then comes on with the apple logo and a progress bar. But iTunes then just says 'waiting for iphone' i have left it for some time and nothing happens.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Dan

Tried a force restart? If so, do you get an error code, after restoring the phone?

Sounds to me the LCD may be defective or broken. Try replacing the screen with a good working LCD/Digitizer and see what happens.

Thanks for your reply

The screen works during the restore, it's just not working at any other time. Could this still be the the screen that's causing this?

Does it keep repeatedly make the ping sounds when it's plugged in? Can be caused by a screen going faulty too.

by

No. Pings a couple of times at certain parts of the update, but then just sticks, with the apple logo and a progress bar on the screen
