Why are you changing out your logic board?

You don't need to alter your hard drive when swapping out logic boards. But before you do anything how about telling what you're up to here. We may have a better solution.

Hello Dan,

I have that apparently commun problem of random black screen of the 15" mackbook pro of 2010.

I found that it was a commun problem : https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203554

But I learn it recently and now the problem is becoming serious and very frequent. Especially since I install El capitain, because I was still on snow leopard before.

I went to the apple store, they tested the graphique card and it has a failure. So they told me that I have to change the logic board.

Do you think that there are any other thing to do?

Thanks

Chosen Solution

If the system appears to startup (that is if it does).

Can you try an external display to see if it is reacting the same way? Or, shine a flashlight though the lids logo can you see a faint image of your desktop on the display? Let us know what you discover.

Hi Dan,

I do use sometimes an external display. It is a large screen that I use as a tv. Since I installed El capitain, I can't use the screen anymore because the computer starts and as soon as I open safari the screen goes black and the mac restart.

Actually the computer starts, but I often have black screen, mostly on safari, worst on google maps. When the mac restart is says CPU panic...

I will try to see if I can see something through the logo.

If you are getting a Panic event you have an OS or drive issue that needs to be fixed. I would recommend booting up with an external drive to test things and if that worked you'll want to backup your stuff before running Disk Utility to test the drive and if needed try repairing it. If the drive comes up good you'll need to wipe the drive down and install a fresh copy of the OS.
