does not turn on

when the power button is pressed there is a whirr sound which i guess is the hard drive. Then the optical drive whirrs and then it kind of slows to nothing and nothing else happens. If you put your ear to it there is a gentle noise which I can't tell if it is whirring or just noise.

Please help me fix it?

Options

Remove the front bezel so you can observe the diagnostic LEDS to the right of the RAM slots and let us know what you find both before and after you try to boot. Do you get a start up tone (POST)?
