Is cooling fan speed normal

Just replaced the hard drive and nothing blew up or is smoking so that is good.

The main difference is when we turned it on the fan speed is much higher than before. Will this be adjusted in set up or is this Western Digital Green thing set up that way? It ran fast from the moment we kicked it on so the drive was still cold.

Anything to worry about? It is louder and will work that fan pretty hard if it stays this way?

many thanks

The first thing that comes to mind is that the heat sensor may have gotten disconnected or placed incorrectly. I would open it up and check to see if it remained placed on the drive and also was not pulled out of its plug in.

Thanks for the heads up. I pulled the unit apart again. Retraced the heat sensor wiring all around the outer edge of the screen (the 4 wires are wrapped in a protective sleeve and wedged in the space along the perimeter).

As you have probably guessed - when I put the screen back into the computor housing - I pinched one of the wires and it is cut.

It is such a small wire - can I repair it or do I need to replace the whole wireing harness?

Should stick to working on my tractors I guess.

I should clarify that it is the LCD Temp Wiring harness that wraps around the unit. I assume that also affects the fan control

O.K.

Soldered the broken wire - wrapped it nicely

Put it together and we are off to the races.

Thanks for the advice - those wires are fragile and can pinch real easy.

thanks again

The application HDD Fan Control is the answer. Look it up and read about it. It worked incredibly for me.
