Screen displays a barcode after battery replacement.

72 hours after a battery replacement for my iPhone 5, the screen began to display (slowly, from left to right) a vertical barcode, then the phone shut down after 2 minutes and 20 seconds. After turning the phone back on the same thing would happen, although each time the barcode would display a different color (e.g. black/grey/white on its own OR with magenta OR with cyan etc) before shutting down. During the 2 minutes 20 seconds the device was operable. I took the phone back to the repairer and was told the issue was due to a faulty battery and they replaced the battery.

I began having a similar issue soon after the second battery was installed, except that the phone doesn't switch off and the barcode is ONLY black/grey/white. Also, the icons on the screen will 'shiver' immediately before the barcode appears. The barcode can appear at any time and there is no indication on how long it will stay on the screen.

I took the phone back today and was served by someone in sales. After explaining the replacement/repair history to catch her up and explained that the phone was still having similar issues, she said that I had to have dropped the phone or knocked it in some way immediately after they replaced the battery - that it could not be due to the battery being replaced. I argued the matter and they have kept my phone while they wait for management to decide on a course of action.

The phone was perfect aside from needing the battery replaced. Can you tell me if it is possible that a technician has inadvertently touched something which has caused these issues?

Thanks for your input. I paid half of what the Apple Store was going to charge me (I live in Australia). It wasn't the saving I was after, it was the fact that the Apple Store had a turn around time of 11 days! I didn't want to be without my phone for that time - as it stands with the company I went through, they have (so far) had my phone for a total of 22 days...

The problem is definitely with the replacement battery or technician's work.

He either knocked something off the motherboard or the battery replacement is cheap junk(like some repair shops use). Fight for your money back, as your phone was perfect before the service.

How much did they charge?

Jake, I really don't care for your comment about repair shops using cheap junk. My business has been built on my reputation and I want my customers to stay with me for life. I put the highest quality parts and batteries in that I can find. Maybe YOU use junk.

I didn't target you. That's great to hear. I was talking from a general point of view.

Most, not all, of the techs I know that have been in the business for over five years operate from a very high standard of integrity. Look any company or individual up before using them. Remember that people are ten times more likely to bother to leave a negative review than a positive one so that does skew the results. In my opinion, the bigger the company, the more likely that their people are close to minimum wage and have very little training. This site included, out of the thousands of people I have helped here, only a very small handful have ever bothered to say thanks or gone further. Most don't even bother to give me an up vote.

Personally, I've only known greedy repair groups that put the cheapest parts and don't care at all for what they use to fix, as long as it gets done.
