Reflow graphic chip?

I can buy a Powerbook G4 17" 1,5 Ghz 512Mb Ram for about 90 euro's (i'm living in Holland).

There is one problem (or maybe more :) everything looks OK, but powered on, there are several (quite a lot to be true) stripes on the display. So probably the graphic chip is defect or lose contacts with the logic board - or the logic board is bad.

It's a challenge of course to figure out what really is the problem. Is there anyone out there who has tried a reflow of the graphic chip?

Or what else will be possible to do?

Hook it up to an external monitor to determine if the chip is OK. If good then it's the Data cable, inverter board or LCD.

Thanx

but, the guy who sells it says that he already tried that,

it did not work: just for a second or so.

I really will have to look at other drastic methods to get this powerbook working, i guess?

Finally i got it working !

it wasn't as difficult as it looked.

Mayer was right!

on the external monitor it worked.

but the lcd screen was broken.

For 30 euros i could buy an slightly damaged (glossy) lcd screen.

the only thing i had to do was to make an adjustment to connect the screen to the inverter, and carefully place the lcd. But that was all.

Powerbook is working great now.

Graphics are wonderfull on the glossy screen.

Next project is a Powerbook G4 15 1,67 with nou sound, no lcd, fans are not working so it shuts down (or goes to sleep and does not wake up) after 5-10 minutes: so heat prob. i quess, or DC-IN/Sound board prob of course. I'll let you know how things work out.

Any suggestions?

Start another question, because being that the original post already has an accepted answer, it will get ignored.

Glad you got it fixed. But as Majesty said, please start a new question on the new problem.
