Problem after SSD hard drive upgrading

Hello, I have a MBP Unibody 13 Mid-2012. It came originally with 500GB 5400rpm HD.

I replaced it into an OCZ Trion 240GB SSD Drive.

The problem is that the SSD does not boot properly (folder with question mark, or forbidden sign).

I have read that it might be a problem with the cable. The SSD boots up OK from external device.

The thing is that the cable works perfectly when I plug the original HDD. (Reason why I assume on Apple Store will tell me that is SSD fault and they won't change me the cable).

My question is: is this a cable issue (having to replace it) or is there any software or BIOS problem that makes non-original Apple pieces to work wrong?

Thank you very much!

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Please tell us how the SSD is formatted and how the system was installed.

by

Hello, the SSD is MacOS Journaled (only one partition) and the system was installed via Internet recovery (cmd+R when booting).

Thanks

Was it formatted internally or externally? What does it do now when you do the command R?

by

The format was done internally. It installs normal, boots the first time but when restarting errors appear. After three or four times of restart it can boot again, but then it doesn't work anymore

That sounds like a bad SATA cable. I would also check the systems firmware level. Review this Apple T/N: About EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Mac computers. Depending on the OS you are installing you might have something newer than whats listed here. Both Yosemite & El Capitan upgrades update the systems firmware.

When you have insert SSD in you Mac, you have to insert external media containing OSX (Ex. USB stick) and start up your Mac while holding down the "ALT" key.

Start from this support, and wait for it to appear on the screen the main screen, so as to choose the option: "Utility Disk".

Choose your SSD and click on "Initialize";

Assign a name to your SSD and make sure that under "Format" is selected: "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)".

There's an OS in Command-R so what are you talking about? Where would you get a USB stick with the opertion system anyway? Just getting a new HDD....few directions.....what do you do buy an HD and a USB stick with El Capitain on it? Suppose the external media is the old HD which has El Capitain on it anyway?

Depending on the age of your system you should have Internet Recovery. Here's more on it: About macOS Recovery
