when turning on stops loading at apple logo
when turning labtop on stops loading at the apple logo. what could be the problem? also lid won't shut completely so screen won't shut off.

You have two problems that may be related
the lid or hinges sounds bent.
Try a safe boot (shift boot). If that works you can rule out hardware and look for software issues like bad .plist files or some other file.
Try using the install disk and run disk utilities, disk repair and permission repair.
