My display is dark

MacBook Air 13" mid-2009 A1304

All of a sudden my display went dark. Hook it up to an external monitor and it appears there.

Any ideas on what I might try to fix before a total replace?

See step #23 of this guide to check the display data cable. Check the cable for wear, impingement, corrosion and seating. MacBook Air Models A1237 and A1304 Display Assembly Replacement

Options

Disassemble then disconnect and re-connect the display cable. Also check the length for kinks or fraying especially in the display hinge.
