Is there an enclosure for the SSD?

My mom's laptop was just replaced by Apple, but it wasn't possible to restore the data previously. The Genius mentioned there is an enclosure that I could get to mount the old SSD and rip the data from it. Seeing as Amazon hasn't quite fulfilled my search. The biggest problem is that I don't know if it's possible to just swap the SSD's and perform a backup and reswap later.

After some more digging, the SSD can't actually be mounted on the newer Macbook Air because the pre-existing SSD was for a 2014 Macbook Air with OS X 10.9, which can't be booted on the newest Macbook Air. Still trying to find an enclosure or a way to grab the data.

Hi Dan, I'm not 100% sure that is the right enclosure. That looks like an M2 enclosure, but the SSD seems to be a 12 + 16 pin SSD, a similar adapter for a desktop PCIe is available here: http://www.pc-adapter.net/products/747.h...

Of course, just an enclosure will be phenomenal, but I don't want to spend more than $50.

It's the correct unit. If you are going by the vid I can understand your confusion. The vid is for a different unit but is the exact same procedure for both. Sadly, I don't know of any other case. You might find a used unit on eBay.

Thanks for confirming. I've ordered the enclosure and hopefully nothing happened to the data on the SSD. Cheers!

JESUS CHRIST, $129 for that pile of $@$*.

You can buy a PC with PCI express card slots here http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/... plus this card here http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-2014-MacBoo... for cheaper. HFS explorer will show you your files.

So you're suggesting buying an entire PC just to get the data? What the heck type of suggestion is that?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-2014-MacBoo... You'll need a proper desktop with PCI express card slot to do it though.

This is a MacBook Air, not a Mac Pro classic (or Windows PC) unit that has PCI slots.
