Is the LCD cable pinched?

Dropped my iPhone 4S (old, I know) and front screen cracked. Bought a new screen replacement and went through the labyrinth of !&&* to disassemble the thing, finally got to remove the cracked one and place the new front screen. In doing so, I tried to feed the two "paper-like" cables through the middle slot carefully, but had trouble pushing the front screen into the middle. I didn't think anything of it, and continued to reassemble the other parts until I got to the point where you need to connect those cables to the logic board. The digitizer was too short to reach the logic board, and turns out I pinched that cable when I pushed it against the middle portion of the iPhone (apparently very easy to do). I turned my phone on and the left half of the screen is streaky gray, while the right half shows either a red or blue color, depending on what I swipe with it. Question: Is this pinch enough to throw off the display screen? It sounds like I may need to purchase another replacement screen and start over...

Thanks!

It sound like it could be a number of things. If I were you I would go back and check the ribbon cable for tears , if there is none then I would clean the connectors with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol and make sure they are all seated correctly. If it still doesn't work properly I would contact the manufacturer for a replacement or possibly go with a different supplier for a new replacement. Also, once you receive a new display you can bench test the display before going through full reassembly. Here are some quick steps on how to do this that I copied from elsewhere, take out the rear case> disconnect the battery>disconnect the display screen cables>connect the cables from the new display screen>connect the battery>and check if the new screen display is good. If it's good, do the full display assembly with the new screen, and at the end if the screen doesn't work at least you know it's not the display.

crimping or creasing that flex cable can ruin it. I'd always double check my connections and see that its seated properly before declaring it toast but yes, you may need to order a new replacement display.

Shoot, sounds good. I appreciate the quick responses. I've gone through this repair process about 6 times trying to fix it. It's crazy how sensitive those cables are!

Its common mistake. everyone has done it at least once. The devil is in the details on a lot of this stuff, overall, an iphone 4s display is a cheap lesson.
