Are the iFixit batteries good?

Hello, I'm new to the site and I've been searching the net of course for an OEM battery for my iphone 5.

I've ran the Apple Online diags on my phone and it said that I should replace the battery. I believe the battery is the issue as the current old battery drains quickly and even drains down to nothing if I try to record video, etc.

Anyway, I've been searching, checked Amazon for a "OEM Apple Battery", as I won't buy from ebay.

Upon my googling, I came across a site and someone said to get a battery from iFixit,

This is the one that I would need. iPhone 5 Battery

Has anyone else bought this battery? If you have, is it good? Bad? etc.? I am aware that it's not an OEM battery. Just looking for a reputable company and product.

Thanks for any guidance.

Just replace the battery in my Gaaxy S7 Edge with one from iFixit. THe replacement battery is poor, lasting only 8 or 9 hours with very light use. The 3-year-old OEM battery I replaced worked better then the new iFixit battery.

It was a waste of time and money.

Hi @ibisiki ,

Everyone's entitled to their opinion and the language wasn't offensive.

What he should have done is contacted ifixit about the problem as they guarantee their parts, even batteries if they malfunction early in their life

Excerpts from this quote from this page

"iFixit’s Lifetime Warranty ...... Batteries and other consumables are not covered by the Lifetime Warranty. Accidental damage, normal wear and tear, and labor costs are also not covered. ..... iFixit will replace any defective or malfunctioning product at no charge; if the part is no longer available, we will provide a refund."

From their warranty page

"Example: If your iPhone 5 battery replacement fails entirely after a couple months, we’ll replace it. If it loses potency after dozens and dozens of cycles, we won’t."

@jayeff in that case i'll try one... thanks

Hi,

From experience, iFixit sell among the best replacement parts you can find out there. And they back them up with a good warranty in case a defective part alips through their quality control. If were you, I would buy from them without hesitation.

Personally I do this for a living, and I can assure you that poor quality batteries are the norm, not the exception. So your safest bet is to get it from a company that stands behind their products. You don't want to go cheap and have to repeat the repair since every time you attempt a repair and open your phone, you risk damaging something.

Just bought 5 iPhone 6 batteries... 1 is not charging at all. The other ones are draining fast (in different iPhones). I'm really getting frustrated from all those batteries. I bought from many different suppliers (from what they say, all top quality) but non are working like they should. At least 12 hours in standby mode instead a few hours...

It would be v. helpful if there is a way to check the battery voltage BEFORE INSTALLING . It's a pita when introducing an unknown in the diagnostic process, esp. when getting a black screen.

by

Well there are those Kasei battery testing fixtures which output battery voltage.

by

"Kasei battery testing fixtures "? . Would you be more specific ? Or perhaps you're joking as to the impracticability ?

If you search this up on Google they are boards that charge iPhone batteries either via a power supply or wall charger as the power source.

Anyway. I know reputable battery's for iPhones. If you get Pisen branded batteries you shouldn't have problems, though they are a bit more expensive but worth it.

“I bought from many different suppliers (from what they say, all top quality)”

Most of the batteries being sold in the market for iPhones are used or low quality.

Batteries stay inside the phone, so a used battery or a new battery will look the same, there’s companies that receive the original used batteries, put them in a new plastic pouch and sell them as “New Original Replacement Batteries” in the market.

There’s also batteries that although are new and have the same outside looks as the original Batteries are made to really low standards. The goal here is to achieve the same outside looks (pretty simple) and make it just able to hold a charge (even if only lasts a few minutes), while skiping and saving every cent in all the raw materials used.

AVOID ebay and aliexpress battery offers and sellers.

I don’t have experience with iFixit batteries, it would be nice to see some tests comparing to an original one.

Not v. helpful w/out any back up data or at least some anecdotal evidence.

"AVOID ebay and aliexpress battery offers and sellers".

Same here, also it begs the question, why ?

Information w/out facts can be dismissed w/out facts.
