ok - since majesty and richard held me at gunpoint - i write my answer again.

first of all, i never use any automatic function in itunes.

i simply drag and drop my stuff on the ipod

open itunes and connect the ipod (it must be set to manual "whatever this in an english itunes version is called")

open a finder/explorer window and navigate to your music folder.

then simply select the files you want - then click and move the files to the itunes window and simply drop them on the ipod

Are you sure that the songs are checked off on itunes? If the songs arent checked off they'll play in iTunes but will not be synced to your iPod. Check on iTunes and make sure that the songs in question are checked off next to the title. I have found that sometimes while clicking a song to play it, I would inadvertently uncheck it by mistake.

Check to see if there are exclamation points next to the songs in iTunes. How full is your iPod?

Ok there is a couple different reasons why this could be. First, if the songs are unchecked it is normally set to just sync checked songs and playlists. So checking the songs may resolve the issue. Secondly if it is just purchased content that is not syncing you may need to authorize your mac through itunes to play that media and sync it to the ipod. You can authorize the computer by going to the store menu in itunes than to authorize computer in that menu.
