Compatibility keybords between A1342 and A1278?

Hello

Sorry for my poor english level (I'm french).

My macbook's keyboard (13" Unibody white (Model A1342) Late 2010) is dead and I try to change it. I see a macbook keyboard (model A1278 macbook pro 13" unibody) cheap and I would know if we can put keyboard of macbook A1278 on a macbook A1342 ? Two kinds of keyboards seems to be the same.

Thank you

Sorry, no. Modern Mac laptops incorporate the keyboard into the top case assembly, which also includes the power button. The A1278 MacBook Aluminum (2008) and the A1278 MacBook Pro (2009-2013) share a model number, but they share no common parts. Apple's re-use of the A1278 model number is a source of irritation for those of us who own MacBook Aluminums; it makes it more difficult to locate the correct parts.

A1342 Unibody MacBook not-Pros are entirely different both from Aluminum MacBooks and from unibody MacBook Pros; the top cases/keyboards are not compatible.

iFixit currently stocks the top case/keyboard assembly for your MacBook, with a US English keyboard. Apple's original part numbers for the A1342 top case are 605-2396, 661-5396, 661-5590 and 818-1098; eBay searches on those part numbers bring up several Canadian French (QWERTY) keyboards at prices between US$60 and $160. My guess is that a French source such as leboncoin.fr might have more, and might also have French (AZERTY) top cases. Note: A1342 top cases usually do not include the trackpad; you'll either need to transfer the trackpad from your current top case, or buy a replacement top case that has the trackpad already in place.

It's possible to remove the keyboard from the top case, but it's a time-consuming job; there are a lot of tiny screws. Frankly, replacing a top case on any unibody laptop is a chore; you basically have to dismantle the entire computer to get the top case free.

Are you 100% sure that i doesn't fit? its the same connector and same layout, everything is the same, except maybe the power on button length, but thats an easy squeeze. I dont have one to try out. But in theory would an A1278 keyboard work in a A1342 logic board?

Hi everyone, it does fit! I did it on my A1342 and the connectors and layout are the exact same. The only "tricky" part is to figure out a way to actually attach the keyboard to the top case. In my case I glued it!

Bonjour!
