Can I connect a power supply direct to my iPhone?

Hi,

Something happened to my iPhone and it now only charges when off. This is a pain, I hve tried resetting it and using other leads to no joy.

I am in a situation where I have no money at all to buy anything. I only use my phone at home as I don't leave the house .

Could I connect usb wires directly to the terminals the battery connects to on the iphone? As in dissemble the phone and do this?

The only power source I have is the USB from a slimline ps2

Would this work?

Thanks

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I think I can do it , I just don't want to short the phone out or blow it up!

You can but you need to protect the battery from over charging.

Can I not just remove the battery? I am not interested in having the battery?

by

Will the power from a ps2 USB be ok to do this?

by

Yes it would supply 5 Volts DC

It will work as long as you don't have (or later get) a problem with your battery or cable. If you do you risk damaging the USB port from whatever you're using.

The charging issue is likely either a bad charging IC or one of the components around the battery connector is damaged. Have you or anyone else been disconnecting the battery lately? If so, if you have a magnifying glass you'll probably find that one of the small resistors or caps by the battery connector terminal is missing. It's VERY easy to do. Replacing it should fix the problem.

Hi vs, no, haven't been disconnecting the battery at all. So no idea what has actually happened. All I know is I don't leave the house so I don't need the battery and would like to come up with a fix where I can just connect my iphone directly to my power source

by

Just to confirm, the current set up charges when off

I would just specifics of where I can connect my wires too from my power source

Power gets applied between the 2 outside pins of the battery port. There's an image that was posted elsewhere on ifixit that shows the orientation on iPhone 4. 4s is similar:

FYI If you're not sure which is which you can use a voltmeter (or multimeter set to read voltage) to check the pins of the battery itself. Even "dead" batteries will seldom read 0V.
