MBP A1150 generates dim Magsafe LED and no backlight

This thing will actually chime consistently and zaps PRAM as expected if you hold down the power button.

Known working Magsafe MBP adapters will generate a dim green LED (and the battery has been removed). Sometimes they'll generate a bright amber LED, but there's no battery inserted. The laptop fails to charge a known working battery. The contacts look clean enough, but I'll still try some rubbing alcohol on the connector.

There's no backlight - I had a hard time viewing an image.

I'm thinking about replacing the left I/O board. What other MBP left side I/O boards can I use to replace this suspect board? I'm hoping I can use the one from the A1226.

Thanks for reading!

This sounds like the full blown version of the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor issue which involved not only the GPU but the battery: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377

Contact Apple at one of these locations and tell them you believe you have this issue. I've sent in three of these in the last month and a half. On all I got a new motherboard, on one I also got a new mag-safe and flex cable. Apple is very familiar with this issue. Just have your serial number and the the name of the registered owner ready. You'll have a shipping box at your door the next morning and the repair computer back in four days.
