Display is black but I can see on connected monitor

The screen is black but I can see it when I see very carefully that the screen is dark and not black. When I am connected to external monitor everything looks fine ( I have to mirror the screen).

So my imac display is practically black but when i look carefully it seems brightness is not enough. I have tried increasing brighness without any help.

My External monitor works perfectly fine when I mirror the display.

I opened and checked if there is loose connection but its fine. Question is following

1. what and how to check the its not display or anything wrong?

2. If at all i have to replace what should I replace?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

Yes, your LCD has a light source. And from what you are describing it is no longer working.

To make sure shine a flashlight at the front at a sharp angle you should see the faint outlines of the desktop icons. If that is the case you will need to either replace the inverter and/or CFL lamps.

Update

I would start by replacing the inverter. Here's the IFIXIT guide: iMac Intel 20" EMC 2133 and 2210 Inverter Replacement.

As for the part you'll need to give us the last four digits of your serial number so we can give you the correct part number.
