Installing External Power Button?

I have "butchered" the case of a spare MB core duo to use in a project(its going inside a new case). I have been trying to find out but cant find any exact info on wiring up a external power button. I have seen about the "power pads" but no one answers if it can be soldered to and used as permanent solution. Or does anyone have any other suggestions??

im not replacing it into a new macbook case....and the keyboard part of the case is too large for its new case (its going to be a media center computer)
