How can I know which brand hard drive is in my iMac?

i am considering purchasing a Seagate 1TB hybrid hard drive to replace the factory-original 1TB HD in my iMac (the original HD died), and read that i MUST replace with the same brand HD as what it came with. (Seagate? Toshiba? some other brand?) but after spending a few hours reading the specs on this computer, i cannot figure out which brand HD is actually in my iMac now. how do i figure this out without opening it up first?

Try going under the Apple to About this Mac > System Report > Hardware > SATA or SATA Express, it will list your drives, give us the model number

thanks for responding! i really appreciate it. but if this involves doing anything with my dead iMac, well, that's not possible since the hard drive is fried. but on the box it came in, it says it's model number A1312. does that help?

You failed to mention that your machine was dead. How about telling us about its symptoms? To find out which hard drive you have, just follow this guide: iMac Intel 27" EMC 2429 Hard Drive Replacement

I think he's getting confused on with the older iMac's that needed the unique thermal sensor cable, which isn't needed here. He should be set here with the Seagate SSHD (hybrid drive).

he said the drive was dead in the first comment at the top of the page
