Unplug left fan until new one arrives?

Hello,

My macbook fan is broken and making a lot of sound. I cleaned it out today and broke off a couple of the clips on the fan that could have possibly been scrapping. The sound continues to go ... the fan isn't doing much. Am I able to remove it (this model has another fan on the other side) or will the computer not start?

I have a new fan coming on its way but would like to work in peace! I am monitoring the temps closely and nothing over 65-70 degrees.

Thank you !

Answer this question I have this problem too

Worry about cooking (killing) your CPU. Keep an eye on that temp. The computer will boot, but running without a fan is dangerous. You could ramp up the other fan with software - stressing it so that it may fail sooner than normal.

yeah I know its not a long term solution, its just soo noisey. I will keep a close eye on the temp until the new fans arrive. thanks for the feedback Machead ... btw what is a safe temp range? i have yet to see anything above 75 degrees on the cpu monitoring 8 cores. good to go?

cheers

So I took the left fan out entirely since it wasn't doing anything. I think I should be alright until the new one arrives in a week if i keep a close eye on the temps. I took the advice and am ramping up my other one . Here are my specs ... let me know what temp i should be looking out for. I will not be running any super resource heavy task.

Please do not do this. Apple laptops include such garbage thermal design that hundreds die everyday when BOTH fans are plugged in, do not run this with one fan, it will not end well.

Will it turn on? Sure.
