Is there a way to dry out MacBook from flood damage?

flood waters entered my car and soaked into my macbook purchased in Jan. '08. Is there a large enough waterbag that will dehumidify and save my computer? Or is there another way? Battery was totally discharged.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Drying out is not a repair - see the tags at right.

At the very least you'll have to replace some components.. how many depends on some variables - what was in the flood water, how discharged the battery was and how much corrosion has taken place since.

Drying it out before powering on is smart and step one. - use uncooked Rice or a commercial desiccant in a large sealed Tupperware container or plastic bag. DO NOT USE FORCED AIR.

If you have no backup you may be able to retrieve data by putting the dry (72hrs in desiccant minimum) HD in an external case and accessing from another Mac.

Selling for parts and making an insurance claim may be your better alternative.

Mary, this sounds like extensive water damage. No amount of desiccant will work to remove the fluid from the inside of your computer. I strongly suggest to disassemble your Mac and to clean all the parts with a high grade of isopropyl alcohol. A desiccant "may" remove a fraction of the water but any leftover water will lead to corrosion with subsequent failure. Stop using the computer, remove the battery and use this guide to remove the logic board for cleaning as well as the other guides to work on your computer. Hope this helps, good luck.
