My mac's keyboard and trackpad not working at all

I recently purchased a used macbook pro running OSx Lion 10.7, and i found out that the keyboard and trackpad are not working at all.

Connecting external KB and mouse works well and i was wondering what could possibly be the issue as i was advised by a friend to change the upper case with the KB and trackpad. I am looking forward to get it repaired without spending too much on the same.

Any advices appreciated.

Go to step #15 & 16 of this guide and reseat the trackpad connector and make sure the ribbon cable for the keyboard if fully seated: MacBook Pro 15" Unibody Late 2011 Upper Case Replacement
