Is the hard drive I bought toshiba 3 TB RPM 3.5" compatible
Followed I fix it instructions. Tried using disk utility to format drive, always get error message stating:
Operation not supported.

Your G5 has an Internal HD Interface: Serial ATA (1.5 Gb/s)
Check to see if your 3 TB drive is backward comparable to1.5 GHz

I have the same issue. I can't initialize the drive or format it.

Answer mayer's question. Did you get a 3 or 6 Gb/s (SATA II or III) drive that must be manually set to 1.5Gb/s (SATA I)? Turns out some "automatic sensing" or limiting drives aren't as magic as claimed. - You may want to open your own question to get more help as this is a dead end that's 6 mos. old.
