Does not go to sleep when lid closed after spilling juice

My 2 year old spilled juice over the keyboard. I cleaned it up, let it dry and now everything works OK except power button and power lid. When I close the cover it stays on. When I have turned the computer off I cannot easily turn it on with power button. I have to randomly press all buttons for 5-10 seconds till it comes on.

Any ideas how to fix it?

You have suffered damage to the top case/keyboard (power button runs through that) from the spill. Depending on the juice more damage may be occurring as acid or sugar breaks down more components inside.

At the minimum you need a top case replacement. For more of an idea what sorts of damage can occur, how to prevent further damage, how to repair that damage follow the tags at the right... juice spill and repair liquid damage.
