my screen has got diagonal pixellated patterns

The screen on my iMac has stopped working and I do not get an Apple logo unless I start it up in safe mode. If I do it has diagonal pixellated patterns which make it impossible to see anything. In normal start up mode there is just a strange pattern and the pointer becomes some lines of text.

I am told that it must be the logic board. Is it possible to get a replacement? Does anyone know where?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

While I agree with matthewfrey, he doesn't actually answer the question:

Buy a new logic board

I would agree, I have seen many fail in the same way, poor quality graphics chips that are part of the logic board. for the cost of a new logic board, you are half way to a New iMac, and given the age of the machine, it may be time.
