Track pad does not select

I have a Macbook pro 17in and my mouse moves around on the screen, but does nothing when clicking or selecting an item.

I checked to see if the battery was swollen, and it is not.

I believe I need to replace the track pad, but I'd like to make sure before doing so.

Yes you'll have to replace the trackpad but you can also use the tap function that act like a clic. Check the trackpad module in system preferences.

Like mayer said, try adjusting the trackpad adjustment screw, but give it a couple of tries before giving up. It takes a while to calibrate to were the trackpad clicks again.
