Hard drive fails to format

I installed a new hard drive on my imac g5, and when I try to partition it, it gives me the error it failed, I try again and it acts like it worked but I know it went to fast and it fails to load the software. So I try to reformat it and it fails again. Any clues? I have tried on 2 different hard drives.

Answer this question I have this problem too

Is this a good question?

I would talk to the vendor of the HD. Especially if it is a Hitachi.

If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

It's not hitachi, both hard drives were western digital. The one I thought just crashed and I tried to reformat it and then thought it was corrupt when it failed and got a new one, but now the new one does the same thing.

One is a maxtor 6L250MO SATA150 and the other is a western digital WD3200AAJS-22B4A0 SATA CAVIAR

Could be a bad ribbon cable to the HD and board.

I will try that, thanks.
