Upgrading the "Fusion" in my Fusion drive

I have a newly purchased Mac Mini with the Fusion Drive and am wondering if I can upgrade the the 128 ssd portion of the drive to a 250 or better? I have read that the ssd portion of the Apple Fusion drive is a Samsung 830. I have a new 840 pro 250 and was wondering if there may be an oportunity to clone the current ssd to the larger 840 and reinstall?

I originally bought the 840 to install with the fusion and found out it was 2 physical drives after the fact and now I have the 840 pro as a paperweight unless I choose another option.

That's a great link and it solved a multitude of questions for me. For the most part it does not look like the benefit would be worth cracking my new mini open and go through all the work just to gain 120 extra gigs on the ssd side. In the future I may opt to go big on the ssd when pricing settles down some more but what's inside the mini right now more than meets my needs.

Gee, you could have accepted it as the answer if it was the answer.

'I agree - or - my answer to put the drive in an external case. The only way these "Questions" cleared is if you the OP accept and answer OR if we the moderators vote an answer as acceptable.

Not so fast here...

You'll need to break the fusion drive back to discreet drives first before you can remove the SSD. If you don't you'll have a mess. Here's the best way to do it Breaking up a fusion drive.

In theory, just about any hard drive or SSD that meets the minimum requirements should work in the Mac mini. However changing the internal HD is''' an advanced DIY project. Take care to have the right tools, be familiar with the steps and connectors involved.

' Were I you I would put the Samsung in and external case,'' clone to it and run it that way.
