My MacBook is saying COMPUTER DATE SET BEFORE 2008 then goes blank

how do i correct the date when the macbook is not showing anything on screen?

You apparently need a power source or new DC-in out board. The date is "remembered" in the CMOSS chip - these machines do not have a separate CMOSS battery but use the "regular" battery. You should be able to power on the unit through the battery charger (magsafe plug). If you're missing the charger get one, if your battery is old get a new one. If you have a new battery and a charger but the light on the charger wont (light that is - to indicate charging or fully charged) you need at a minimum a replacement DC-in board. Once those problems are solved you should be able to go the the Sytem Preferences: Date and Time to reset the date.
