Inverter issue on MacBook 1.83ghz -

Hello,

I have been asked to look at my father in-laws MacBook - 1.83ghz.

When lifting the screen up from closed state, the display lights up however when moving further up the display goes completely black and then if you carry on changing the angle, the display works fine.

Something seems faulty and am unsure whether its the Invertor board or cable at fault.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

I would opt for the cable, based on your description (also that they tend to go bad more often and are cheaper/easier place to start with a DIY repair). Once you get it open examining the cable and the board closely using a magnifier may show nicks, shorts or burn marks on one and not the other.
