My iPod said it needs to be plugged into a wall outlet

I put a battery into the iPod but it said it needs a wall outlet why?

To finish the install of the firmware. Especially the older ipods required the wall charger with any repair as well as firmware updates. i.e. restore. You will see the apple icon coming on, a status bar will appear underneath it and subsequently this procedure will take all but a few minutes. Darn this is an old question....:) Bet by now you got it fixed:)

The battery may not be charged. Plug it in.
