Start up with the Shift key held down. Go under the Apple in the upper left hand corner to "about this Mac" and tell us how much RAM you have. Then click once on your hard drive icon, go under File to get info and tell us how big your hard drive is and how much free space you have.

You need to boot from another computer or volume so that you can mount your HD and delete files from it. If that' is not possible removing one RAM stick might get you to boot (you're reducing the VMEM/SWAP file size but YOU MUST DELETE FILES AND EMPTY TRASH BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE. Cache files can be deleted, but you probably have large movie, music or image files that must go. YOU MUST SAVE `20% of your HD as "free space" (actually it's VMEM and SWAP file space not "free") or your machine will not boot.
