Does this happen on an external display? Are they still there when the computer is turned off?

I have the same problem with an iMac G5 - many vertical colored lines on the main screen. However, if I hookup a external monitor to it, the external has no lines. Any ideas?

Here's a picture of it.

OK, so since the external output is fine I guessed that it was the LCD screen that was bad - and was lucky to have another iMac G5 that had a good screen but bad motherboard. I swapped the screens and now have a fully-functioning iMac that's line-free.

Good question. I was looking at this site for another issue and came upon this. I don't have an answer for you, but interestingly enough, I once had that problem, but somewhat different. I have a mac-mini that's around 5 years old and had an external monitor hooked up to it [obviously, it doesn't have it's own] and it started suddenly to have 2 green lines from top to bottom like the one you have pictured here. I thought maybe it would just go away, but it didn't, and being anal about my electronics as I am, I gave it away and got another monitor and that was the end of that! My new monitor was fine and my friend said later it did the same thing on his computer, so I guess it was just going bad. Still, for my own head, I wouldn't mind finding out from a pro exactly what was happening there!
