Battery removal short circuit occurrence

When taking the battery out I had difficulty removing it and used a paper clip to help pull it upward. The paperclip shorted the battery to the case and I smelled smoke. Is the phone toast or did I just ruin the battery?

Answer this question I have this problem too

Good question, I would install a new battery and see what happens.

Phone seems fine now but for some weird reason the power button doesn't work. $^#&

You didn't say which speaker speaker you replaced, if it was the earpiece speaker than the power ribbon cable was at risk and it was probably damaged and needs to be replaced.

can't tell without testing.

I have found some of the cheap replacement batteries worse than useless so buy one from here. E bay ones don't last and I have even had one that was such a poor fit to the connector that when it was removed it pulled the connection off the motherboard so be careful

Agreed Dave, I wont buy any phone parts from Ebay after getting scammed numerous times.

Well I wasn't replacing a battery, I was replacing the speaker. All parts purchased here. After reassembling, the phone works fine except now the power button does nothing. Did I possibly reinstall that incorrectly?
