Why does the computer default to a random network?

My iMac had this problem after we got a new router in august (it was about 9 years old), when we got a new one it worked perfectly, but whenever i wake up my computer it connects to a unlocked wi-fi network down the street, it does this every time. This network has 1. a strength of 1, 2. it causes my computer to lag for about 2 minutes before I can do anything, 3. it WON'T let me default to my network.

What should i do about this?

running OSX 10.7.5

Use your System Preferences->Network-WiFi:-Advanced:WiFI tab to "forget" that network and only connect to yours (remove that network, and any others, use the checkbox for yours).
