Can I use a new HDD for Mac Pro on my iMac?

I want to upgrade my iMac's Hard drive and i know that the iMac don't allow 3rd party Hard drives unless I change the cable blah blah blah... But my question is if I can use the 2 TB hard drive that apple sells for Mac Pro in my iMac without change the cable.

Probably not. To my knowledge while Mac Pros use the same form factor drive they use a taller (thicker) "desktop" drive. 21mm compared to 9.5mm "laptop" drive in an iMac.

As Machead stated Apple uses different drives in the iMac Vs Mac Pro systems even though they are both 2.5" drives the height of the drives are different the Mac Pro drive being taller (21mm) so it won't fit into the area your current iMac drive is located (9.5mm).

As to 3rd party HD options things are getting better! If you replace with the like manufacture of HD you currently have with the very latest version it will work! Many of the manufactures have implemented Apples method on SMART temp detection so you don't need to use the Apple supplied drive.
