The GPU graphics is built into the motherboard and can not be replaced. According to which motherboard you have, you may be able to upgrade it but the cost is prohibitive.

There are now repair services that will replace the chip in the motherboard with a newer revision of the gpu. Check out Brickfence on eBay.

IT MAY BE A 10 YEAR OLD MAC BUT ITS THE LAST TRUE MACBOOK PRO!!!

Sorry to say the chip has long since been out of production and I doubt anyone has 'new' chips. All you'll find are recovered chips from old systems (junk).

This GPU chip was also an early flip chip design and had a lot of failures I wouldn't spend the money on it.

Kjol, I had one and I cried when it died too ;-{ But everything as a lifespan and this systems has pasted, time to move on, sorry.

@danj I got lucky because mine died under warranty. I've entertained a cheap 2008 to have as an occasional use toy if I can find one that isn't dead but I'd never consider it reliable because it will still have a defective chip.

I consider the 2007/2008 sentimental (I'm indifferent to the year because the only real difference is the GPU failure rate) and I still have the box. It was the machine that pushed me towards not relying on the manufacturers since I had software on it they decided to snitch about. I had a 17" 1920x1200/2.4GHz SR C2D/2GB RAM/160GB model. IIRC that was the A1260.
