My Problem
Apparently my Otterbox case couldn't protect my phone from a 2 foot fall. My LCD had dead columns of pixels and flickered after the fall.
After successfully fixing my PS3 because of the guidance provided in iFixit's video walk thru, I figured I would come back to iFixit.
My Fix
The parts arrived and were well packaged. I installed the repair manual app on my iPad and followed the instructions and figures provided. The directions are short and to the point and the pictures are clear enough to zoom in and see more detail. During the entire screen replacement process (2 hours) I never felt lost.
Now I'm entering this review on my working iPhone.
My Advice
Anybody that is ready to perform this surgery on their iPhone needs to understand that apparently Apple has a surplus of glue and isn't afraid to use it. I spent 2 hours repairing my phone and 1/4 of my time was spent slowly prying and loosening my battery from the case. I would pry with the plastic tool provided and would slice the glue with a dentist pick kit I use for circuit card assembly.
My Problem
Freak accident with a sandstone drink coaster resulted in dozens of deep scratches to the glass of my iPhone display. The device still worked.. but I could not live with the rainbow effect the display now emitted. I was very glad to find the iFixit website.
My Fix
Repair went well..took about an hour. Had a little trouble placing the circuit board back in the frame, watch out for the data ribbon cables... but patience paid off. The plastic tools were very helpful. The pictures from the website paid off enormously.
My Advice
Keep the steps of the repair organized with compartments of a parts tray so as to not get confused when reinstalling all the parts. Use high quality tweezers to hold and move the screws. Magnifying goggles helped me see the small screws and judge their sizes. Don't forget to remove and reuse the home button.
