Upgrade 2.16 to 2.33

Can I upgrade my 2.16 to a 2.33? I was thinking of just getting a new logic board, is this possible. If so, what other parts would I need?

You do realize that you're taking about an 8% speed increase and the cost of a used motherboard is $569.95 plus shipping. Others here can tell you if it can be done. My question to you would be: WHY?

Max the RAM out, put a solid state hard drive in if you have to spend money on it. These are easy to do upgrades and the guides are right here. Replacing the motherboard is very difficult. If this answers your question just hit the "accept" in the line to the upper right.

I agree with Mayer! A LB replace is a HUGE undertaking, and as a DIY there's a chance that when done you have zip!

Most users would not notice the slight speed gain.

Better to put the $ in RAM, SSD or larger/faster HD.

Good Luck,

N.

We don't know what happened to the original 2.16 logic board maybe it's dead and Mike has to replace it. If so I'd take the same route than him.

I agree that you'll get far better improvement for your money by maxing out RAM and putting in a larger/faster hard drive and/or SSD. in fact why don't you remove the optical drive and install a 2nd hard drive or Solid State Drive in that space. there are companies that make brackets for this purpose (see this article) I'd put a large hard drive in the regular spot for user data and install an SSD in the 2nd spot to put your boot system and all your apps on the SSD.

The Model A1211 2.33 GHz board is directly compatible with a Model A1211 2.33 GHz machine. You would not need to change any parts other than the board itself.

Good luck!
